And i have medicare and emblem. An enormous bill appeared next after the appt!!!!!!!! WHY????? The phone call is long and takes many turns to get through to a person.  Left a message and called three hours later, as no one called me back Lovely PA but computer issues are ancient

Urgent care in New York, NY

New York City's emergency rooms average 6.1-hour wait times — the fourth longest in the country — making urgent care a practical alternative for non-emergency illness and injury across all five boroughs. Most Solv-listed clinics accept walk-ins and offer same-day online booking, with Medicaid accepted at the majority of locations.

When should you go to urgent care vs. the ER in New York City?

New York City's emergency departments are among the most strained in the United States, with average ER wait times of 6.1 hours — the fourth longest nationally, according to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services data. For non-life-threatening conditions, urgent care offers faster access and lower out-of-pocket costs.

Urgent care is appropriate for fever, flu-like symptoms, strep throat, ear and sinus infections, urinary tract infections, minor lacerations requiring stitches, sprains and minor fractures, skin rashes, pink eye, and COVID-19 or flu testing. Most Solv-listed clinics in New York City offer on-site X-ray and laboratory services, covering the majority of non-emergency diagnostic needs.

Go to an emergency room for chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of stroke — sudden facial drooping, arm weakness, or speech difficulty — severe abdominal pain, major trauma, heavy uncontrolled bleeding, or any condition where life or limb may be at risk. NYC Health + Hospitals and major academic medical centers including NYU Langone, Mount Sinai, and NewYork-Presbyterian operate emergency departments across all five boroughs for true emergencies.

What services do urgent care clinics in New York City offer?

Urgent care clinics in New York City handle acute illness, minor injury, on-site testing, and occupational health — covering the vast majority of conditions that do not require a hospital emergency department. Three of the largest networks listed on Solv in New York City offer the following services.

CityMD, the largest urgent care chain in the New York metropolitan area, provides on-site testing for influenza, streptococcal pharyngitis, COVID-19, and sexually transmitted infections; digital X-ray imaging; laceration repair and wound care; occupational health evaluations and workers' compensation visits; and travel medicine consultations including vaccinations.

GoHealth Urgent Care, operating in partnership with Northwell Health — New York State's largest health system — offers influenza and COVID-19 testing, STI screening, treatment of minor fractures and sprains, occupational health services, and integration with Northwell's electronic health record system for care continuity across follow-up visits.

Mount Sinai Urgent Care, part of the Mount Sinai Health System, provides acute illness visits, minor injury treatment, on-site laboratory services, imaging, and direct referral pathways into Mount Sinai's specialist network for follow-up care when needed.

Service availability varies by location. Check individual clinic pages on Solv to confirm available services at your nearest clinic before booking.

How does flu season affect urgent care demand in New York City?

New York City is among the highest-volume markets for influenza-related urgent care in the United States. The flu season typically runs November through March, with peak demand concentrated in January and February. In the 2025–26 season, New York State reported more than 146,000 confirmed influenza cases, with New York City accounting for a disproportionate share of statewide activity given the city's density and transit-dependent population.

Urgent care clinics across the five boroughs offer rapid influenza A/B antigen testing, with most Solv-listed locations returning results within 15 minutes. Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) prescriptions are available at most clinics following a positive test. COVID-19 rapid antigen and PCR testing are available year-round, and many clinics offer combination flu-COVID panels that test for both simultaneously.

During peak flu weeks, same-day booking through Solv allows patients to reserve a time slot and avoid competing with high walk-in volume. Booking even an hour ahead can meaningfully reduce in-clinic wait time at busy NYC locations.

What insurance do urgent care clinics in New York City accept?

Most urgent care clinics in New York City accept major commercial insurance plans, including Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Empire BlueCross BlueShield, and Oscar Health. New York's uninsured rate stands at 4.8% — among the lower rates nationally — though cash-pay options remain available at most Solv-listed locations for patients without coverage.

New York's Medicaid program covers urgent care visits at participating locations. Approximately 6.99 million New Yorkers are enrolled in Medicaid, and most Solv-listed clinics across the five boroughs accept it. Child Health Plus and Essential Plan participants should verify clinic-level participation directly, as network participation varies by location. Medicaid acceptance is indicated on individual clinic pages on Solv.

Insurance acceptance varies by clinic. Use the Solv clinic page to confirm your specific plan is in-network before booking. For uninsured patients, many NYC urgent care clinics offer self-pay rates substantially lower than emergency department costs for equivalent non-emergency services.

Which boroughs and neighborhoods have urgent care in New York City?

Urgent care clinics operate across all five NYC boroughs, with the highest concentrations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Major networks including CityMD, GoHealth, and Mount Sinai maintain multi-borough presence. Neighborhood-level availability varies — dense residential corridors in Astoria, Williamsburg, and Flushing have higher clinic density, while parts of Staten Island and the outer Bronx have fewer options within immediate walking distance.

  • Manhattan, NY — Midtown and downtown corridor, highest urgent care density in the city
  • Brooklyn, NY — Urgent care across Park Slope, Williamsburg, Flatbush, and Bay Ridge
  • Queens, NY — Clinics serving Flushing, Astoria, Jackson Heights, and Jamaica
  • Bronx, NY — Urgent care across the South Bronx, Fordham, and Riverdale
  • Staten Island, NY — Walk-in urgent care on the North and South shores
  • Newark, NJ — Urgent care in the immediate NYC metro, across the Hudson
  • Philadelphia, PA — Nearest major metro, 95 miles south via I-95
