Medical team was very efficient and professional. The provider did a great job of discussing and explaining all issues we came in for and had her tested. Prescription was ordered and we were on our way with a plan for recovery.

Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience at this location. The pediatrician/NP was great and I have no complaints about the medical provider, but the front desk staff was extremely rude and unprofessional. There was absolutely no courtesy or respect in the way we were spoken to. As parents bringing in our children, we should not be made to feel like we are an inconvenience or be talked to like we're garbage. I especially had a poor experience with the woman at the front desk who wears glasses. The customer service was unacceptable. We also accidentally left a pair of glasses behind, and instead of the situation being handled professionally, it added to an already frustrating experience. I would recommend going to the Fredericksburg location or another Little Spurs location instead. The medical provider here was good, but unfortunately the front desk experience was enough that I would not return to this location because that front staff is absolutely so rude. When checking in at the Texas MedClinic waiting time was lengthy, but once we were called to the back. The Medical Assistant was absolutely very Thorough has a excellent personality I would like if Esther skills were passed on to the intire team. The Doctor also was very thorough and explaining over the treatment and follow up. I diffently would recommend this facility. Just make sure and register online before arriving so it can cut down on the waiting time.

Wasn’t to happy with provider she kept telling my daughter to look straight like it mattered when she was just listening to her lungs?! Didn’t see why that mattered . And kept saying sit up straight. As if she didn’t feel good already and she came in being bossy. That’s not what I went in for.other staff was nice and friendly.

Staff was extremely friendly, had a slight wait due to other appointments coming in but staff was very apologetic while still providing great care! Had a slight issue with the pharmacy the prescription was sent to and staff was quick to resend to another to make sure we could get it asap. Thank you!!

Urgent care
Tamara at Little Spurs Pediatric Urgent Care was phenomenal. She demonstrated an extraordinary ability to balance care, efficiency, and effectiveness while helping this grandmother navigate concerns involving potential cost, technology, and the delicate responsibility of communicating with my grandson’s parents. I had come from an ophthalmology appointment earlier that day where my eyes had been dilated, leaving me unable to read the small print on my screen. Tamara immediately adapted. She helped me navigate the technology and get screenshots transferred into the system so the information could get where it needed to go. But Tamara didn’t simply answer questions or provide technical assistance. She listened, problem-solved, and even negotiated to help find a workable solution. She understood that this wasn’t simply about an appointment or a bill. It was about helping a grandmother care for her grandson while respecting his parents, considering the potential cost, and making sure everyone had the information needed to make a good decision. Tamara combined compassion with competence and turned what could have been a frustrating situation into a manageable one. Her ability to provide care with efficiency and effectiveness—while never losing the human element—was exceptional. Little Spurs is very fortunate to have Tamara.

Urgent care in Somerset, TX

Somerset is a small city in south Bexar County about 20 miles southwest of downtown San Antonio, with urgent care needs largely served by clinics in nearby Lytle, Devine, and the south San Antonio corridor. Book a same-day visit nearby or in urgent care in San Antonio in under a minute.

What services do urgent care clinics in Somerset offer?

Urgent care for Somerset residents typically comes from the south San Antonio corridor along I-35 and US-281 — handling flu, strep, UTIs, sprains, lacerations, ear infections, sports physicals, and on-site labs and X-ray. University Health, Methodist Healthcare, and Baptist Health System operate multiple urgent care and primary care clinics serving south Bexar.2

Does urgent care in Somerset accept STAR (Texas Medicaid)?

Most urgent care clinics serving the Somerset area accept STAR, the Texas Medicaid managed care program administered by Texas Health and Human Services.1 Because Texas hasn't expanded Medicaid, eligibility is largely limited to children, pregnant women, and very low-income families — KFF tracks Texas as the state with the highest uninsured rate in the U.S.3 University Health serves a large STAR and uninsured patient population across south Bexar County.

How does Somerset urgent care relate to San Antonio?

Somerset has roughly 1,800 residents and sits in southwestern Bexar County, with a workforce heavily tied to agriculture, ranching, and commuting into the broader San Antonio area.4 Patients routinely route into urgent care in San Antonio for urgent care and higher-acuity hospital services.

Urgent Care Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are there urgent care clinics in Somerset?

Yes. Somerset, TX has walk-in urgent care available either directly in town or within a short drive in adjacent communities. Most clinics offer same-day visits for common illnesses and minor injuries, with on-site labs and X-ray where needed. Use Solv to see real-time availability and book a slot before you walk in.
  • Does urgent care in Somerset accept STAR (Texas Medicaid)?

Most urgent care clinics serving the Somerset area accept STAR, the Texas Medicaid managed care program administered by Texas Health and Human Services. STAR is delivered through several managed care organizations (Amerigroup, Molina, Superior, United, etc.), so confirm with the specific clinic which MCOs they contract with before booking. Texas has not expanded Medicaid under the ACA, so working-age adults outside the standard STAR eligibility criteria typically do not qualify.
  • What insurance do urgent care centers in Somerset accept?

Most Somerset-area urgent care clinics accept commercial insurance plans (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Humana), Medicare, and TRICARE for active-duty military and veterans. Many also accept STAR (Texas Medicaid). Cash-pay and self-pay options are widely available — average urgent care visit costs run $100-$250 depending on services. Confirm your specific plan and copay with the clinic before booking.
  • Should I go to urgent care or the ER in Somerset?

Urgent care handles non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries — flu, strep, UTIs, sprains, lacerations needing stitches, minor burns, ear infections, mild asthma flares — usually for a fraction of an ER bill and with shorter waits. Go to the ER (or call 911) for chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe trauma, difficulty breathing, severe abdominal pain, head injury with confusion, or any condition that feels life-threatening. The nearest hospital ER for Somerset residents is University Hospital (downtown San Antonio).
  • Does University Health serve patients near Somerset?

Yes. University Health is the public health system for Bexar County, with multiple primary care clinics and urgent care options across south Bexar County. University Health is a major provider for STAR Medicaid and uninsured patients, with a sliding-fee scale program (CareLink) available to county residents.
