Urgent care
Got a text that I was ready to be seen so I came to the clinic but then waited an hour to be seen. They refused to do most accurate testing (vaginal swab for gonorrhea and chlamydia testing in women… they said urine was the only option which is not standard of care for women and has many false negatives). No clinic has ever refused to do GC/CM swab for testing. Just so odd to me. They seemed agitated that I even asked. I’m an ER PA with 10 years experience who tests others for STIs all the time, so why would they not practice evidence-based medicine at AFC?

Once upon arrival I was welcomed and taken cared by the front desk. Waiting time was minimal and was greeted by kind medical staff. The nurse practitioner that took care of me was top notch in professionalism. She gave me literature on the problem I came in for which was so helpful. I would highly recommend this location. Everyone is great!

Urgent care
Scheduled an appointment but still had to wait for about an hour until I was seen. Also, the music that was playing at the front desk is fun while listening outside of a medical office but not for patients that don't feel well. It was loud and not the least bit relaxing.

Urgent care
I have had many accidents in my life. Been to the ER more than a dozen times for a variety of mishaps, mistakes, and missteps that required medical care and stitches. Never have I experienced the care and kindness I have ever received from any medical care facility as I did by going to South Bay Urgent Care. I hate going to hospitals and try to avoid going at all cost. Unfortunately I sliced one of my fingers half way through and needed stitches. I feel fortunate and lucky enough to have had Isaac Ortega-Endahl, PA-C sew my finger back together. The man has amazing skill sets and should be a surgeon. Thank you Dr. Issac. I truly appreciate your kindness. I didn't realize that I got there close to their closing time and feel grateful to your entire staff that took care of me that night. Kindness is a rare thing in the world today. I'm so thankful that it exists in your staff at South Bay Urgent Care. Truly amazing people.

Urgent care in San Ysidro, CA

San Ysidro sits at the U.S.–Mexico border in San Diego's southernmost neighborhood, where bilingual walk-in care is part of daily life. Most urgent care visits here resolve same-day for fevers, infections, minor injuries, and travel-related illness — far cheaper than a visit to urgent care in San Diego's ER networks.

What services do urgent care clinics in San Ysidro offer?

San Ysidro Health operates federally qualified health centers in the area, while Scripps Health and Sharp HealthCare run urgent care and primary care clinics throughout the South Bay region.2 Walk-in services typically include strep and flu testing, sprains and minor fracture evaluation, prescription refills, immunizations, and pediatric care. Most visits are completed in under 90 minutes.

Most clinics also offer DOT and sports physicals, allergy treatment, STI testing, and travel medicine. What urgent care typically does not handle: active heart attack or stroke symptoms, severe trauma, complicated childbirth, or psychiatric emergencies — those need an ER. Most San Ysidro-area clinics post wait times online and accept walk-ins, though booking ahead through Solv typically gets you in faster and lets you complete paperwork before you arrive.

Typical visit length is 30 to 90 minutes from check-in to discharge, depending on whether x-ray, lab work, or a procedure (laceration repair, splinting) is needed. Most clinics in the San Ysidro area are open 7 days a week, with extended evening and weekend hours. Some operate as 24/7 urgent care or freestanding ERs — those are clearly labeled in the booking tool above so you can pick based on hours and acuity.

Does urgent care in San Ysidro accept Medi-Cal?

Yes — most San Ysidro urgent care clinics accept Medi-Cal, California's Medicaid program administered by the Department of Health Care Services.1 Medi-Cal covers urgent care visits for eligible enrollees with no copay in most managed care plans. Roughly one in three San Diego County residents is enrolled in Medi-Cal, according to KFF state data.3 Confirm the clinic is in-network with your specific managed care plan (Community Health Group, Molina, Blue Shield Promise, or Kaiser) before booking.

Medi-Cal covers urgent care visits, basic labs, x-ray, prescription medications ordered during the visit, and follow-up referrals. Patients typically have no copay at the point of care for managed-care visits. If your Medi-Cal plan has not been activated or if the clinic is out-of-network with your specific managed care plan, you may be asked to pay self-pay rates and seek reimbursement. The clinic’s front desk can verify eligibility in real time before you’re seen.

For commercial insurance, most local clinics participate with the major PPO and HMO carriers and process insurance at the point of care. Bring your current insurance card and a photo ID. If you’re uninsured, ask about self-pay rates up front — many clinics publish flat self-pay pricing that’s far lower than an ER visit. HSA and FSA cards are accepted at most clinics for the patient-responsibility portion of the visit.

How does San Ysidro urgent care relate to San Diego?

San Ysidro is a community within the City of San Diego, located 17 miles south of downtown along I-5. The neighborhood has roughly 28,000 residents per the U.S. Census Bureau,4 with a population that swings significantly during the day due to cross-border commuter traffic at the world's busiest land port of entry. Many San Ysidro residents also use clinics in Chula Vista, National City, and downtown San Diego for specialty or after-hours needs.

For most non-emergency same-day issues, staying local in San Ysidro is faster and cheaper than driving to a San Diego ER. Reserve the ER for true emergencies. If a clinic in San Ysidro can’t see you, the booking tool above will surface the next-soonest availability across nearby cities — often within a 10–15 minute drive.
