AFC Urgent Care, Southpoint - 6400 Fayetteville Rd
Came in to the urgent care with an online appointment scheduled. I have been here several times. I have insurance, which was verified by the office, but the front desk girl said I was required to have a credit card on file but couldn’t tell me why. She did say it would be on file in your system for FIVE years. Not only does that seem to be a crazy ask with verified insurance, she could explain why the card was needed or why it would be on file for years. Makes me question things for sure…. The provider was great but first impression needs improvement.

AFC Urgent Care, Raleigh Midtown - 2913 Wake Forest Rd
I had an appointment at 9 a.m. and was taken in at 9:05 and had my vitals taken. After that, the NP didn't come in until 9:50. I was given my results and that interaction took about 5 minutes. I had previously received a call regarding my results, but was unavailable when they called. I called back multiple times and left 2 messages, but my calls were not returned. It seems like this appointment wouldn't have been necessary if they returned my call, and informed me that my future care would be at a different practice. It also would have felt better if someone just communicated with me during the appointment that they were running behind and it would be 40 minutes before the NP could see me. My appointment today confirmed that my injury was more severe than I was told. I was told weeks ago that there were no indicators that I had a torn ligament, but I was finally approved for an MRI a few days ago, and the results showed a torn ligament. They told me it was just a contusion on multiple occasions, and that there was no sprain or torn ligament. I went every week and expressed my pain, and how continuing to exert myself physically at work caused more pain, but I do not feel like I was heard or taken seriously. I understand worker's comp is complicated, but it feels very frustrating.

I came in one day without an appoint and waited two hours as a walk-in before I had to leave without being tested. I made an appointment through Quest Lab Testing for the next day, showed up on time, got tested easily and was on my way in 15-20 minutes. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Chapel Hill HIV Testing

Who should get tested for HIV?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for HIV, particularly if they have multiple partners or do not consistently use protection. Those who share needles or other drug paraphernalia, or have been treated for another sexually transmitted infection, tuberculosis, or hepatitis, should also get tested. It's important to remember that HIV can affect anyone, regardless of age, sex, race, or sexual orientation.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for HIV is crucial for several reasons. First, it allows individuals who test positive for the virus to begin treatment as soon as possible, which can significantly improve their health, quality of life, and lifespan. Second, knowing one's HIV status can help prevent the spread of the virus to others. Finally, regular testing is key to controlling the HIV epidemic. According to the CDC, about 14% of people with HIV in the United States are unaware they have the virus and may be unknowingly transmitting it to others.

HIV testing options in Chapel Hill, NC:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Chapel Hill is home to several urgent care and walk-in clinics that offer HIV testing. These include Carolina Urgent Care on M.L.K. Jr Blvd, which has a high rating and is praised for its short wait times and friendly staff. Another option is AFC Urgent Care in nearby Durham. Both of these clinics allow for same-day and next-day appointments, which can be booked through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers are another option for HIV testing. If you have a primary care provider, you can ask them to add an HIV test during your regular checkup.

Free STD testing and community health centers

There are also several community health centers and clinics that offer free or low-cost HIV testing. These centers provide confidential testing, often alongside other health services.

At-home testing

At-home HIV testing kits are another option. These can be purchased online or at a local pharmacy. They provide a convenient and private way to get tested.

Prevalence of HIV in Chapel Hill

Chapel Hill, located in Orange County, NC, has seen a steady rate of HIV cases in recent years. While the rate is lower than in some nearby counties, such as Raleigh and Fayette, it is higher than the national average. This underscores the importance of regular testing and education about HIV in the community.

Risk factors related to HIV in Chapel Hill

Risk factors for HIV in Chapel Hill are similar to those in other parts of the country. These include unprotected sex, having multiple sexual partners, and sharing needles. Certain populations, including men who have sex with men and people of color, are disproportionately affected by HIV.

Other STDs in Chapel Hill

In addition to HIV, other sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and hepatitis are also prevalent in Chapel Hill. As with HIV, regular testing is key to prevention and treatment of these diseases.

HIV Test FAQs

  • Who should get an HIV test?

Everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should take an HIV test at least once in their lives. Some people are more likely to get HIV and should be tested more regularly. Those who have had sex with an HIV-positive partner, those who inject drugs, sexually active gay men, and those who have unprotected sex are all included. You should get checked every 6-12 months if you have any of these risk factors.

  • How do they test for HIV?

Antibodies created by your body in reaction to the virus are examined in HIV tests. A blood test or a sample of cells obtained from the inside of the cheek can be used to do this. After that, the sample is transported to a lab, where a technician will look for antibodies.

  • How long should I wait to get an HIV test?

It can take a long time for your body to build enough antibodies for an HIV test to detect the illness if you become sick. It may take 3-12 weeks for your blood to contain adequate antibodies. Even if you have HIV, you could have a negative test result during this time.

  • How long will I have to wait for HIV test results in Chapel Hill?

Because the sample must be sent to a laboratory for investigation, most HIV test results might take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. On the other hand, some Chapel Hill clinics or doctor's offices may offer rapid HIV testing, which can deliver a diagnosis in as little as 20 minutes. Rapid HIV testing involve a little sample of blood or fluid obtained from the mouth. You'll need a follow-up blood test to confirm the diagnosis if a fast test comes up positive.

  • How much does an HIV test cost?

A variety of factors influence the cost of an HIV test, including the type of test you receive, the location where you are tested, and whether or not you have health insurance. HIV testing may be provided for free or at a low cost by some clinics or health authorities. If you're a college student, you might be able to get free HIV tests through your school.

  • Is HIV testing covered by my insurance?

The majority of insurance coverage cover HIV testing. The Affordable Care Act mandates that all new health plans provide free HIV testing for those aged 15 to 65. If you have any doubts about what is covered under your individual health plan, you can always call your insurance company or go to their website.

  • Where can I get an HIV test in Chapel Hill?

Many Chapel Hill health clinics, doctor's offices, and the health department offer HIV testing. Some pharmacies with on-site clinics may also be able to give HIV testing. Even though some clinics accept walk-in appointments, making an appointment ahead of time will save you time and ensure that you receive your test on the same day.

  • Can I get a same-day appointment for HIV testing?

Yes, Solv offers same-day and next-day HIV testing appointments. We collaborate with thousands of healthcare providers across the country to make it easier for everyone to access the medical assistance they require quickly and conveniently. On our website, you can choose a physician near you and make an appointment right now.

  • How can I book an HIV test on Solv?

Simply type "HIV test" and your location into our website's search box. You'll find a list of providers and their available appointment times on the next page. Fill out the form to arrange an appointment at a time and location that is convenient for you. Make certain that your appointment is for "HIV testing."

  • Can I test myself for HIV at home?

Although there are several home HIV tests available, not all of them are accurate or FDA-approved. For a home test, you'll need a swab from the inside of your mouth or a blood sample taken with a finger pricker. If you get a positive result on a home HIV test, you should see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis and start treatment.
