Friendly Staff

Urgent care
I was shocked how easy it was to schedule an appointment on line and for my visit to truly occur at that time. The staff was great, especially the nurse practitioner, Brenda K. She was kind, attentive and proactive. She knew the right questions to ask which made the visit more efficient and easier on me. I felt horrible and she did not make me wait or have to talk a lot. I wish I could have her as my PCP!  I definitely recommend this facility to everyone.

Urgent care in Texas City, TX

Texas City is a major Galveston County refinery hub on Galveston Bay south of Houston, with urgent care needs served by HCA Houston Healthcare Mainland, UTMB Health, and local clinics along I-45 and FM-1764. Book a same-day visit locally or in urgent care in Houston in under a minute.

What services do urgent care clinics in Texas City offer?

Texas City urgent care clinics handle the standard acute load — flu, strep, UTIs, sprains, lacerations, ear infections — plus heavy refinery and Ship Channel occupational health (DOT physicals, drug screens, post-incident evaluations, audiograms, respiratory clearance).2 HCA Houston Healthcare Mainland and UTMB Health–Texas City anchor the area's hospital options, with affiliated walk-in clinics serving the corridor.

Does urgent care in Texas City accept STAR (Texas Medicaid)?

Most Texas City urgent care clinics accept STAR, the Texas Medicaid managed care program administered by Texas Health and Human Services.1 Texas has not expanded Medicaid under the ACA, so eligibility is largely limited to children, pregnant women, and very low-income families — KFF tracks Texas as the state with the highest uninsured rate in the country.3 Texas City has a heavily working-class population shaped by refinery and petrochemical jobs, and STAR is widely accepted at corridor clinics.

How does Texas City urgent care relate to Houston?

Texas City has roughly 51,000 residents and is one of the largest cities in Galveston County, shaped by Marathon, Valero, and Marathon Galveston Bay refineries plus a dense petrochemical complex.4 The city is anchored economically by refining and logistics on Galveston Bay. Patients route north along I-45 into urgent care in Houston for specialty care and Texas Medical Center referrals.

Urgent Care FAQs

  • Are there urgent care clinics in Texas City?

Yes. Texas City, TX has walk-in urgent care available either directly in town or within a short drive in adjacent communities. Most clinics offer same-day visits for common illnesses and minor injuries, with on-site labs and X-ray where needed. Use Solv to see real-time availability and book a slot before you walk in.
  • Does urgent care in Texas City accept STAR (Texas Medicaid)?

Most urgent care clinics serving the Texas City area accept STAR, the Texas Medicaid managed care program administered by Texas Health and Human Services. STAR is delivered through several managed care organizations (Amerigroup, Molina, Superior, United, etc.), so confirm with the specific clinic which MCOs they contract with before booking. Texas has not expanded Medicaid under the ACA, so working-age adults outside the standard STAR eligibility criteria typically do not qualify.
  • What insurance do urgent care centers in Texas City accept?

Most Texas City-area urgent care clinics accept commercial insurance plans (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Humana), Medicare, and TRICARE for active-duty military and veterans. Many also accept STAR (Texas Medicaid). Cash-pay and self-pay options are widely available — average urgent care visit costs run $100-$250 depending on services. Confirm your specific plan and copay with the clinic before booking.
  • Should I go to urgent care or the ER in Texas City?

Urgent care handles non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries — flu, strep, UTIs, sprains, lacerations needing stitches, minor burns, ear infections, mild asthma flares — usually for a fraction of an ER bill and with shorter waits. Go to the ER (or call 911) for chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe trauma, difficulty breathing, severe abdominal pain, head injury with confusion, or any condition that feels life-threatening. The nearest hospital ER for Texas City residents is HCA Houston Healthcare Mainland.
  • Can Texas City urgent care handle refinery occupational health?

Yes. Texas City is one of the largest refinery hubs in the U.S., and local urgent care clinics are heavily oriented toward refinery workforce needs — DOT physicals, pre-employment and random drug screens, breath alcohol testing, audiograms, post-incident injury evaluations, respiratory clearance, and workers' comp intake. Call ahead to confirm the clinic is contracted with your employer's occupational health network.
