CityDoc Urgent Care, Inwood Village - 5301 W Lovers Ln, Dallas
The receptionist never greeted me when I entered the office. She was not at the desk but was back in another office talking to another staff member. My first interaction with anyone was when the nurse called my name to be seen. The nurse and Dr were professional and friendly. When I walked back to the front there was still no one at the desk. The receptionist was again in the other room talking to another staff member. I said excuse do I need to check out and she said no you’re good. Very poor communication.

I had a rash or some kind of allergic reaction.   The PA diagnosed the symptom quickly by looking at my arm and stomach.   He said I had an allergic reaction to poison ivy and ordered a steroid shot as well as medicated cream and tablets I need to take for six days.   He was very professional.   After a day . . .,The rash is already healing.

Dallas HIV Testing

Who should get tested for HIV?

Anyone who is sexually active, particularly those with multiple partners, should consider getting tested for HIV. This also includes individuals who share needles for drug use or have had a blood transfusion. According to the CDC, it's crucial for pregnant women to get tested, as HIV can be transmitted to the baby during childbirth or breastfeeding.

Importance of getting tested

Early detection of HIV is vital for effective management of the virus. It can slow the progression to AIDS, improve longevity, and reduce the risk of transmission. According to the CDC, about 14% of people with HIV in the United States are unaware of their status, which underscores the importance of regular testing.

HIV testing options in Dallas, TX:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care centers like CityDoc Urgent Care and Baylor Scott & White Partner in Dallas provide HIV testing services. These facilities are a convenient option for same-day or next-day testing appointments, which can be booked through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Your primary care provider can also conduct HIV testing. This can be a comfortable option for many, as it allows you to discuss any concerns with a healthcare provider you trust.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Dallas also offers free STD testing at community health centers. These centers provide a crucial service, particularly for uninsured or underinsured individuals.

At-home testing

At-home HIV testing kits are another option. These kits can be purchased at drugstores or online, and allow for a private and convenient testing option.

Prevalence of HIV in Dallas

Dallas County has a higher prevalence of HIV compared to the national average. According to the CDC, Dallas County reported 16,000 cases of HIV in 2018, a rate of 695.8 per 100,000 people, compared to the national rate of 373.2 per 100,000 people.

Risk factors related to HIV in Dallas

The primary risk factors for HIV in Dallas are unprotected sex and intravenous drug use. Certain populations, such as men who have sex with men, are at a higher risk. Socioeconomic factors, such as poverty and lack of access to healthcare, also contribute to the prevalence of HIV in Dallas.

Other STDs in Dallas

In addition to HIV, other STDs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and hepatitis are prevalent in Dallas. In fact, Dallas County has one of the highest rates of chlamydia and gonorrhea in the state. Regular testing for all STDs is recommended for sexually active individuals.

HIV Test FAQs

  • Who should get an HIV test?

Everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should take an HIV test at least once in their lives. Some people are more likely to get HIV and should be tested more regularly. Those who have had sex with an HIV-positive partner, those who inject drugs, sexually active gay men, and those who have unprotected sex are all included. You should get checked every 6-12 months if you have any of these risk factors.

  • How do they test for HIV?

Antibodies created by your body in reaction to the virus are examined in HIV tests. A blood test or a sample of cells obtained from the inside of the cheek can be used to do this. After that, the sample is transported to a lab, where a technician will look for antibodies.

  • How long should I wait to get an HIV test?

It can take a long time for your body to build enough antibodies for an HIV test to detect the illness if you become sick. It may take 3-12 weeks for your blood to contain adequate antibodies. Even if you have HIV, you could have a negative test result during this time.

  • How long will I have to wait for HIV test results in Dallas?

Because the sample must be sent to a laboratory for investigation, most HIV test results might take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. On the other hand, some Dallas clinics or doctor's offices may offer rapid HIV testing, which can deliver a diagnosis in as little as 20 minutes. Rapid HIV testing involve a little sample of blood or fluid obtained from the mouth. You'll need a follow-up blood test to confirm the diagnosis if a fast test comes up positive.

  • How much does an HIV test cost?

A variety of factors influence the cost of an HIV test, including the type of test you receive, the location where you are tested, and whether or not you have health insurance. HIV testing may be provided for free or at a low cost by some clinics or health authorities. If you're a college student, you might be able to get free HIV tests through your school.

  • Is HIV testing covered by my insurance?

The majority of insurance coverage cover HIV testing. The Affordable Care Act mandates that all new health plans provide free HIV testing for those aged 15 to 65. If you have any doubts about what is covered under your individual health plan, you can always call your insurance company or go to their website.

  • Where can I get an HIV test in Dallas?

Many Dallas health clinics, doctor's offices, and the health department offer HIV testing. Some pharmacies with on-site clinics may also be able to give HIV testing. Even though some clinics accept walk-in appointments, making an appointment ahead of time will save you time and ensure that you receive your test on the same day.

  • Can I get a same-day appointment for HIV testing?

Yes, Solv offers same-day and next-day HIV testing appointments. We collaborate with thousands of healthcare providers across the country to make it easier for everyone to access the medical assistance they require quickly and conveniently. On our website, you can choose a physician near you and make an appointment right now.

  • How can I book an HIV test on Solv?

Simply type "HIV test" and your location into our website's search box. You'll find a list of providers and their available appointment times on the next page. Fill out the form to arrange an appointment at a time and location that is convenient for you. Make certain that your appointment is for "HIV testing."

  • Can I test myself for HIV at home?

Although there are several home HIV tests available, not all of them are accurate or FDA-approved. For a home test, you'll need a swab from the inside of your mouth or a blood sample taken with a finger pricker. If you get a positive result on a home HIV test, you should see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis and start treatment.
