My husband was seen on a Friday morning. Appointment set up online. We arrived @ 8 am for an 815 appointment as directed. I could not get the app to take a picture of his ID. He is a 68 yo male w 36 hr hx max Temp 102.8 F orally, shaking chills, drenching sweats & “feels horrible”. C/O “raw” feeling throat initially but has coughed literally twice without any mucus production. No other physical complaints. Temp did drop to 98.6 oral with Tylenol & Advil. Temp 101.2 oral in clinic. Hx includes HTN, Dislipidemia, Arthritis. Never smoked.  We chose this clinic because it was Urgent Care which, per my search, meant they were equipped to handle more complicated issues than a simple walk in clinic. I mistakenly assumed this meant they could do labs onsite. They do not, except for rapid swabs. They did a rapid test for Covid & Flu via nasal swab. The provider read those results & reported to us that my husband had neither. She sent in a prescription for a gelcap for cough. They can draw labs but, blood is picked up late in afternoon by LabCorp. That means you do not get your lab results until the next day if at all. We did not get his at all. We received a notification via text that his results were available & we could view them by setting up an account. I did. We could NOT. We called for lab results Monday at the same time we asked for the results to be sent to his Primary Care Physician. He had continued to have the same symptoms over the weekend. Not worse but, not improved. Miserable weekend!!! Called his Dr Monday & was able to be worked in. We were told when we left there Friday after I encouraged the “Provider” to draw blood ( we discussed it & decided a CBC to get a baseline on White Blood cells was a good idea). We also discussed a Chest Xray. We agreed it was likely too soon as his lungs were clear on her exam, his O2 Sat was normal & he really had no respiratory symptoms. She also reported that his throat looked normal on exam. Our Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Advantage insurance charges $90 for an Xray as an outpatient. My husband & I were concerned this was an unnecessary expense based on Physical Exam. This provider stated he had a “Viral Illness”. She explained that a viral illness can cause high temps even in an adult & make you “feel like you have been hit by a truck”. She encouraged us to return if he got worse. She advised us she was off the next day which was a Saturday but, her counterpart would call us with the results, “ if they had gotten them”. She explained that the clinic closes at 4 pm on Saturdays & she did not know when LabCorp would actually process the blood tests and report them out to the clinic. But, if they got them someone would call us with the results. According to the text I received from LabCorp , the clinic received the results at the same time we were notified they were available to view which was on Saturday. Since I was not able to view them or retrieve a copy of his office note on the site, I must assume the clinic never received them. We did ask the person who answered the phone if we could get a verbal report of his labs results. She asked us to hold. It sounded like the same person to me who came back on the line shortly & said, “there is nothing concerning”. I verified, “ his blood work looks OK”? She verified, there is nothing to worry about”. I thanked her & told her we were seeing his Family Physician at 2:30pm so please send the labs to her.  When we saw our Family Physician, she had received a copy of my husband’s lab results. In her interview & examination of my husband. She reported that my husband had an elevated white blood cell count on the blood that was drawn 3 days prior. She stated if the provider who saw him on Friday had seen these lab results with an elevated WBC and Neutrophil count, she would have seen that these point to a BACTERIAL Infection NOT a Viral Illness. Our physician gave him an antibiotic injection in the office and sent in a prescription for an oral antibiotic and a cough syrup. By the following morning, Tuesday, he was feeling significantly improved. In summary, No, I DO NOT recommend this clinic and I would NOT return. I am not sure about the provider. It is not her fault the clinic does not have an actual lab. So she had an incomplete assessment which actually is her responsibility. However, I am the one who questioned not doing labs & Xray & we discussed it. Otherwise she was ready to discharge us with only the negative nasal swabs for Covid & Flu. I feel there is fractionation in care here. If that provider had reported off to her counterpart on duty the next day & someone had been looking for my husband’s labs, they could have called us and told us that his labs indicated a need for an antibiotic vs “watchful waiting” ( my term). In addition, in social chatting with staff in their “in & out” trips doing different things; I learned that they are staffed by only the 3 people we had seen that day but, “hopefully we will make it & be busy enough to get a lab”. Personally, I have NEVER had to question if a facility or a provider had all they needed to provide adequate care. In the future if I am going somewhere unknown, I will ask.

Lab testing
I came in one day without an appoint and waited two hours as a walk-in before I had to leave without being tested. I made an appointment through Quest Lab Testing for the next day, showed up on time, got tested easily and was on my way in 15-20 minutes. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Huntsville Mono Tests

A mono test can be used to identify mononucleosis, which is an infectious viral disease. Mono is caused by several viruses, the most common of which being the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).

Mono can afflict persons of any age, although it affects teenagers and young adults the most frequently and visibly. Mono will develop in one out of every four teenagers and adults infected with EBV.

If you have mono symptoms, your doctor may order or perform a mono test for you. Mono symptoms include fever, headache, sore throat, tiredness, rash, and swollen glands in the neck or armpits, which are quite similar to the flu.

Mono tests come in two forms: the monospot test and the EBV antibody test. In the blood, the monospot test searches for specific mono antibodies, whereas the EBV test looks for antibodies specific to EBV. Both tests require a blood sample, which can be taken from a vein in your arm or from your finger. A mono test may be used with other tests, such as a complete blood count or throat culture, to confirm or rule out a mono diagnosis.

Because a tiny needle is used to sample blood from your finger or arm, a mono test takes less than five minutes to conduct. Your blood is extracted into a small tube or vial and tested in minutes to discover if antibodies suggestive of mono are present. A mono test requires no preparation, though it may cause minor side effects like as discomfort or bruising at the injection site, which usually subsides after a few minutes.

If your mono test is positive, your doctor will talk to you about your treatment options. Mono normally goes away on its own after a few weeks, although some people may experience long-term fatigue. Getting enough sleep and drinking enough of water are essential.

Mono Test Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does a mono test cost Huntsville?

A mono test's price is determined by a number of factors, including test provider pricing, geographic location, and whether or not your health insurance plan covers the test. To discover more about your benefits and coverage, contact the mono test provider directly.

  • Does insurance cover mono testing?

Mono testing is covered by many health insurance policies, especially if your doctor determines that it is medically necessary based on your symptoms and current health status. Contact your health insurance provider directly to see if mono testing is covered. Some mono test companies will check your insurance benefits to determine if this test is covered.

  • Who should get tested for mononucleosis Huntsville?

Anyone experiencing mono symptoms should be tested for the virus to confirm or rule out the diagnosis. Mono symptoms include fever, sore throat, headache, tiredness, rash, and swollen glands in the neck and armpits, which are similar to flu symptoms. Mono can affect everyone, but it affects teenagers and young adults more frequently.

  • How do they test for mono Huntsville?

Blood is drawn from your fingertip or an arm vein for a mono test. Both methods have a lot in common. The testing provider will pierce your finger with a little needle and draw blood into a small tube or vial during the fingertip test. A little needle will be inserted into your arm to draw blood into a small tube or vial to collect blood from a vein in your arm by the testing provider.

  • How long does a mono test take Huntsville?

A mono test is reasonably quick, requiring no more than five minutes whether blood is drawn from your fingertip or arm. Mono tests don't normally necessitate any preparation and don't cause any downtime. Even though a mono test only takes a few minutes, your session may last longer if you have to wait your turn. Check the duration of the mono testing and your appointment with the mono testing provider ahead of time.

  • How long does it take to get mono test results?

Mono test results are often available within five to ten minutes, while some mono test kits can take up to an hour to complete. Contact the mono testing provider for more information on when your mono testing results will be returned. In most situations, your test results will be available the same day you take it.

  • Where should I get a mono test Huntsville?

Whether blood is obtained from your fingertip or your arm, a mono test takes no more than five minutes. Mono testing usually does not require any preparation and does not result in any downtime. Even though a mono test is only a few minutes long, it can take longer if you have to wait for your turn. Before you go, double-check the duration of the test and your appointment with the mono testing provider.

  • How accurate are mono tests?

Mono tests have been demonstrated to be trustworthy, with an accuracy rate of 95 to 100 percent. Mono tests that just search for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) antibodies, on the other hand, have been shown to produce fewer false negatives than other antibody tests. False-positive findings can arise in patients who have been infected with specific diseases such as HIV, lymphoma, or rubella, because antibodies from these diseases can stay in the bloodstream for up to a year.

  • How can I book a mono test through Solv?

One of the simplest ways to arrange a mono test is to use Solv, which generates a list of the best mono test providers, along with their contact information. Type "mono test" into the "What" section on our home page, then choose your location from the "Where" selection box to the right. Select your favorite mono test provider from the list provided, then use the contact information to schedule a same-day appointment.

  • Can I do at-home mono testing?

There are no at-home mono test kits available to diagnose mono in yourself or a loved one in the comfort of your own home at this time. A blood draw is required for this test, which must be done by a certified and experienced medical expert. A mono test may be performed at your house by some healthcare providers, but there are no test kits accessible for self-testing at home.
