I've been there before a few times as a patient and I went online and scheduled the time. I was very happy they had openings in the early evening. I waited a little bit into the room before the PA was able to see me. Check me out listen to my concerns and give me a plan of action. I might go back in for a recheck as I still have some of the symptoms. They are very friendly and professional. I have recommended this location to many people in the past 2 years.

My first time at Guidewell today made a lasting impression on me. From my phone conversation with receptionist, the ease at scheduling appt, the quick response time for that appt, I was already impressed. Wait time at the office was minimal; Katherine (ARNP) was so caring, gentle and kind. She listened to everything I told her, and made the decision for me to have X-RAYS taken. After having this procedure done, Katherine came back into the room and made some great recommendations for me to follow through with. I only wish I could make Guidewell my Primary Healthcare Provider! Marsha

Great discreet service, scheduled my visit and paid for for the test online not in Showed up at lab, checked in and was seen within minutes. Blood and urine were collected, test results came back quickly within 2 days because I did my test on a Friday. Quick, easy and cheap. Didn't have to wait for a visit to my PCP, and then get referral to lab.

Getting Tested for STDs in Tampa, FL

Who should get tested for STDs?

Everyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for STDs, especially those with multiple sexual partners or those who do not regularly use protection during intercourse. According to the CDC, individuals between the ages of 15 and 24 account for half of all new STD cases, and therefore, regular testing is particularly crucial for this age group. Pregnant women should also get tested to prevent passing STDs to their babies.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is a vital part of maintaining good sexual health. Many STDs are asymptomatic, meaning they do not show any signs or symptoms. Without testing, these diseases can go undetected and untreated, leading to serious health complications such as infertility, certain types of cancer, and increased susceptibility to HIV. Regular testing allows for early detection and treatment, reducing the risk of such complications.

STD testing options in Tampa, FL:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care centers and walk-in clinics offer convenient, same-day STD testing services. One such location is Guidewell Emergency Doctors on N Dale Mabry Hwy, which has a high patient rating and is known for its short wait times and friendly staff.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers are another option for STD testing. They can provide regular screenings as part of routine health check-ups.

Free STD testing and community health centers

For those without insurance or who cannot afford testing, free STD testing is available at community health centers across Tampa.

At-home testing

At-home STD testing kits are another convenient option. These kits can be ordered online, used at home, and then sent back to a lab for analysis. Results are typically available within a few days.

Prevalence of STDs in Tampa

Tampa, located in Hillsborough County, has seen a rise in STD cases in recent years. According to the CDC, Hillsborough County reported higher rates of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis compared to nearby counties such as Charlton and Echols. The county's STD rates also exceed the national average, highlighting the need for increased testing and prevention efforts in the area.

Risk factors related to STDs in Tampa

Several risk factors contribute to the high prevalence of STDs in Tampa. These include a high population density, a large number of sexually active young adults, and socioeconomic factors such as poverty and lack of access to healthcare. Additionally, stigma around STD testing can deter individuals from getting tested and treated, further contributing to the spread of these diseases.

In conclusion, it's crucial for sexually active individuals in Tampa to get regular STD testing. With 439 testing locations in the area, including Urgent Care & Wellness Center in Lutz and RicoLab Services in Tampa, and the option to book same-day and next-day appointments through Solv’s website and mobile app, getting tested has never been easier or more convenient.

STD Testing FAQs

  • Where should I get an STD test in Tampa?

In a doctor's office, a health clinic, or an urgent care center, you can get an STD test. If you're experiencing symptoms, it's best to visit a doctor's office, where they can also treat you or issue you a prescription. Your doctor may also take a swab from the inside of your cheek, your vaginal area, or another potentially infected place.

  • What STDs can be detected by a blood test?

Blood tests are used to diagnose hepatitis B, hepatitis C, herpes, HIV, and syphilis. • Can I test myself for STDs at home?

Although there are several STD home tests available, not all of them are accurate. The accuracy of any STD test is determined by the quality of the sample taken. For home STD kits, a blood sample, a urine sample, or both are frequently required. Because doctors and nurses have more experience collecting samples, traditional in-office STD testing is the most accurate.
