Pediatric urgent care
Thank you to the provider and the MA upfront who helped us today, they were very friendly and compassionate. I’m sorry I didn’t get your names, but there was another young lady up front who wouldn’t even acknowledge me and seemed to be upset because we did come in 1 hour before closing, I can understand how it could be frustrating but I also work at a urgent care and I would never be rude or simply not acknowledge a patient coming in wanting care for their child.  luckily the other MA upfront also noticed she wouldn’t acknowledge me and made sure she heard me which she did she just seemed upset or is having a bad day and choose to purposely ignore me. Besides that it was quick and easy to schedule and get in to be seen  Thank you

Urgent care
Had been going to this location for all of our pediatric urgent care needs. Was forced to use our insurance today even though I explained that I wanted to be self pay that way we could use our HSA card which was the exact same amount as a self pay customer. Made for a disappointing experience and lady at the front desk just didn’t seem empathetic at all. Staff in back seemed checked out as well. Moving forward we will choose a different pediatric urgent care company for any future needs. Left really bummed.

Had been putting off seeing a doctor about a chronic intermittent problem but when it was getting worse decided on Doctors Urgent Care at Northlake as they have taken excellent care of me each time I went for a health problem. This time was no different, scheduling and check in very easy on the the internet. Staff as always showed their knowledge, care and compassion giving time when needed.

Urgent Care in Fort Worth, TX

Roughly one in six Tarrant County residents has no health insurance — 16.9% in 2024 according to the Fort Worth Report's review of U.S. Census data, up from 15.7% the year before. That gap reshapes how urgent care works here. JPS Health Network, the county's public hospital district, carries a significant share of safety-net visits, and the broader Fort Worth urgent care network handles the rest of the workload that would otherwise overwhelm emergency departments.

How does Fort Worth's high uninsured rate shape where you go for care?

Most non-emergency visits in Fort Worth split between three rails: JPS Connection (the county's discount and sliding-scale program for low-income uninsured residents), private urgent care clinics that publish self-pay prices, and the major hospital systems' urgent care lines. JPS Health Network operates as the Tarrant County Hospital District's safety net for uninsured patients and recently broke ground on a major hospital expansion to absorb growing demand. For insured residents and out-of-pocket payers, Texas Health Resources, CareNow (HCA Healthcare), and Methodist Urgent Care run multi-site urgent care networks across the city.

What does Fort Worth urgent care actually treat?

Walk-in clinics in Fort Worth handle the standard urgent care caseload — strep tests, flu and COVID-19 testing, sinus infections, urinary tract infections, ear infections, pink eye, mild asthma flares, sprains, lacerations needing stitches, minor burns, and rashes. Most carry on-site X-ray and basic lab capability. Sports physicals, school physicals, occupational injury intake, and DOT exams are common services. Cook Children's runs pediatric urgent care for kids across multiple Tarrant County sites. Patients in surrounding cities can compare nearby clinic capacity at Arlington urgent care, Mansfield urgent care, Grand Prairie urgent care, and North Richland Hills urgent care.

When should you choose urgent care over a hospital ER?

Urgent care is the right level of care for non-life-threatening illness or injury. Reserve the ER — Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth, Baylor Scott & White All Saints, JPS Hospital, or Cook Children's for kids — for chest pain, signs of stroke, head trauma with loss of consciousness, complex fractures, deep wounds requiring surgical repair, severe abdominal pain, or breathing trouble that does not respond to a rescue inhaler. Per Texas Department of State Health Services hospital reporting, ER cost per visit runs five to ten times higher than urgent care for comparable conditions, and average wait times stretch into hours during evenings and flu peaks. For everything short of an emergency, a same-day urgent care booking is faster and far less expensive.

Where are urgent care clinics concentrated across the metro?

Density follows the population corridors. Near Southside and the Hospital District (around West Magnolia and 8th Ave) cluster around JPS, Texas Health Harris Methodist, and Baylor All Saints. The Cultural District and TCU area carry retail urgent care alongside Texas Health locations. Alliance and Keller in the north handle rapid suburban growth. East Fort Worth and the Meadowbrook corridor lean on AFC and NextCare sites. Burleson and Crowley anchor south Fort Worth coverage. Suburb pages: Keller urgent care, Burleson urgent care, Hurst urgent care, Euless urgent care, Bedford urgent care.

What insurance is accepted, including STAR Medicaid?

Most Fort Worth urgent care clinics accept the major commercial carriers — Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare — plus Medicare. Texas STAR Medicaid acceptance varies by location and managed care plan; STAR is the state's adult Medicaid program, STAR Kids covers children with disabilities, and CHIP covers qualifying low-income kids. Texas remains the only state with the highest uninsured rate in the country per the U.S. Census Bureau's 2024 American Community Survey, and JPS Connection (the JPS Health Network financial assistance program) provides discounted access for Tarrant County residents below specific income thresholds. Self-pay rates at NextCare, AFC Urgent Care, CareNow, and Texas MedClinic are typically posted in clinic and on each operator's website.

Urgent Care FAQs

  • Do Fort Worth urgent care clinics accept STAR Medicaid?

Many Fort Worth urgent care clinics accept Texas STAR Medicaid, but in-network status varies by location and managed care plan. Confirm with the specific clinic and STAR plan before visiting. STAR is the state's adult Medicaid managed care program; STAR Kids serves children with disabilities; CHIP covers qualifying low-income kids.
  • What is JPS Connection and how does it interact with urgent care?

JPS Connection is the JPS Health Network financial assistance program for low-income uninsured Tarrant County residents. It covers care delivered through JPS sites at sliding-scale rates. Most private urgent care clinics in Fort Worth do not bill JPS Connection, but they typically post self-pay rates that uninsured patients can compare against an ER visit.
  • How long is the wait at urgent care in Fort Worth?

Most Fort Worth urgent care clinics post wait times under 30 minutes when a patient books a same-day reservation through Solv. Walk-in waits stretch longer in the late afternoon and during winter respiratory peaks. Booking online holds a slot and trims most of the in-clinic wait.
  • When should I go to the ER instead of urgent care?

Go to a Texas Health, Baylor All Saints, JPS Hospital, or Cook Children's emergency department for chest pain, signs of stroke, severe head injury, complex fractures, deep wounds needing surgical repair, severe abdominal pain, or breathing difficulty unresponsive to a rescue inhaler. For most minor illnesses, sprains, infections, and minor injuries, urgent care is faster and far less expensive.
  • Are there 24-hour urgent care clinics in Fort Worth?

Most Fort Worth urgent care clinics close by 8 or 9 p.m. with shorter weekend hours. After-hours walk-in care runs through hospital emergency departments — Texas Health Harris Methodist, Baylor Scott & White All Saints, JPS Hospital, and several freestanding ERs. Freestanding ERs operate 24/7 but bill at ER rates, not urgent care rates.
  • What insurance do Fort Worth urgent care clinics accept?

Fort Worth urgent care clinics accept the major commercial plans — Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare — plus Medicare. STAR Medicaid acceptance is location-dependent. NextCare, AFC Urgent Care, CareNow, and Texas MedClinic each post self-pay rates for uninsured patients.
  • Where can I find pediatric urgent care in Fort Worth?

Cook Children's operates pediatric urgent care across multiple Tarrant County locations, with shorter wait times during peak winter respiratory season than the Cook Children's ER. Several adult urgent care brands also see pediatric patients, but Cook's pediatric-specific sites have child-friendly equipment and clinicians trained on kids.
