Pain from Sciatica had become unbearable. I wasn't able to schedule an appointment with my doctor, but I went online to Carbon Health's website and had no trouble booking an appointment. I was seen on time, the facility was clean & comfortable, the check-in process was hassle free, and the young lady at the front desk was polite and professional. Dr. Upton was a tremendous help to me. In addition to being able to prescribe the right medication for my condition, she advised me regarding lifestyle changes that might be beneficial. Above all - SHE LISTENED to me! I would certainly recommend this location to my friends and neighbors.

Urgent care
I was going in for a routine drug test for my job. There seemed to be very few people there  and I was shown that there were 0 people ahead of me for the test. I continued to wait in the lobby for about 10 min and nobody said anything to me about my wait time other than they will be with me shortly. Both staff members seemed very short with me and the person doing my urine test was rude and impatient with me when I was wrapping up with a text message. She didn’t even flush the toilet from the previous person using it and didn’t apologize for having me enter a bathroom with a used toilet. There was some kind of issue with the ceiling and water leaking everywhere so maybe that’s why the staff was grumpy but that should not be an excuse.

Was able to make a fast easy appointment for next day online. But wait time in clinic was very long even though I did have an appointment. I think AME should do reminder messages of appointments or when patient needs testing as well.

Urgent Care in Long Beach, CA

Long Beach is home to the nation's busiest port complex — the combined Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach move roughly 40 percent of all US containerized imports — and the diesel exhaust produced by thousands of ships and heavy-duty trucks has made port-adjacent neighborhoods like West Long Beach and Wilmington among the most polluted communities in California.1 Residents here carry a documented burden of respiratory illness that makes access to affordable walk-in care not just convenient, but essential. Urgent care clinics across Long Beach provide same-day treatment without the long waits typical of area emergency rooms.

When should you use urgent care instead of the ER in Long Beach?

Urgent care is appropriate for most non-emergency conditions: respiratory infections, asthma flares, sinus infections, ear and eye infections, urinary tract infections, minor lacerations, sprains, and X-rays for suspected fractures. Emergency rooms at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center and St. Mary Medical Center are the right destination for chest pain, difficulty breathing severe enough to speak in incomplete sentences, stroke symptoms, severe allergic reactions, or major trauma. National data shows average ER wait times exceeding four hours before a physician begins care; Long Beach urgent care visits are typically completed in under an hour, making them the faster and lower-cost option for most everyday illnesses.

Which urgent care providers serve Long Beach?

Long Beach residents have several strong options. MemorialCare Urgent Care, operated by the same nonprofit health system that runs MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center and Miller Children's and Women's Hospital, offers walk-in care connected to the broader MemorialCare clinical network. Exer Urgent Care on Pacific Coast Highway accepts most insurance plans including Medi-Cal, making it accessible to lower-income patients in the port corridor. ContinuEM Urgent Care reports that most patients are seen within 30 minutes. Nair Urgent Care provides another locally rooted option for Long Beach residents. Together these clinics serve the city's full geographic spread, from Bixby Knolls and Los Altos to the port-adjacent communities of West Long Beach. Find urgent care in Long Beach with real-time wait times on Solv.

What conditions do urgent care clinics in Long Beach treat?

Long Beach walk-in clinics handle respiratory infections — including influenza, RSV, COVID-19, and bronchitis — along with skin rashes, allergic reactions, minor burns, wound care, and sports injuries. Given the port corridor's air quality burden, asthma management and treatment of pollution-aggravated respiratory conditions is particularly common. According to the California Air Resources Board, West Long Beach and neighboring Wilmington and Carson rank among the state's highest-burden communities on the CalEnviroScreen cumulative pollution index, with ship and truck exhaust contributing to elevated rates of pediatric asthma and adult COPD.1 Clinics in Long Beach also offer occupational health services, DOT physicals, and STI testing. Patients near Lakewood or Cerritos can compare urgent care in Lakewood and urgent care in Cerritos alongside Long Beach options.

Does urgent care in Long Beach accept Medi-Cal?

Yes. Medi-Cal, California's Medicaid program, is accepted at several Long Beach urgent care locations. Exer Urgent Care explicitly accepts Medi-Cal/DHS plans. The City of Long Beach Health and Human Services department maintains a list of Medi-Cal enrollment assistance resources and accepts walk-in assistance at (562) 570-7979 in English, Spanish, and Khmer — reflecting Long Beach's significant Cambodian-American community.2 Long Beach operates its own independent city health department, one of the few in California that is not a county department, which enables more targeted outreach to the city's diverse, high-need populations. If you are unsure whether your Medi-Cal managed care plan is accepted, call the clinic directly or use Solv's insurance filter before visiting.

What environmental and seasonal health concerns affect Long Beach residents?

Port-related air pollution is the defining environmental health concern for a significant portion of Long Beach's population. Children in port-adjacent neighborhoods have reported nosebleeds, difficulty breathing, and chronic headaches attributed to diesel particulate matter and nitrogen oxides from ship engines and cargo trucks.1 California's Air Resources Board has designated these communities as Disadvantaged Communities requiring priority pollution reduction investments, though advocates and CalMatters have noted that a March 2025 clean-air plan for the ports still falls short of community expectations.1 Wildfire smoke from the broader Los Angeles Basin adds additional PM2.5 burden during fire season (typically October through January). Seasonal pollen from coastal sage and ornamental plantings contributes to allergic rhinitis in spring. Heat events in late summer can trigger heat exhaustion, particularly among outdoor workers in the port logistics sector.

How does geography affect care access in Long Beach?

According to U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts, Long Beach has a population of approximately 466,000, making it the second-largest city in Los Angeles County.3 The city's geography runs roughly 12 miles along the coast and includes distinct communities from the Signal Hill heights to the low-lying port district. Residents in eastern Long Beach near the Lakewood border have different needs than those in West Long Beach adjacent to the port. Solv lets patients filter by neighborhood and insurance plan to find the closest available clinic. Nearby communities served by Solv include urgent care in Compton, urgent care in Torrance, and urgent care in Downey.
