I felt like the sickness was dismissed as a virus very quickly, didn’t even bother to check for strep. The staff is very friendly, but I just wish they would take our concerns a little more serious.

I blame the company for the wait time — offering 10 appointment times in one hour is irresponsible and poor personnel management— I felt terrible for the one receptionist, the one nurse, and the one practitioner. The people were lovely but the process needs improvement.

Urgent care in The Colony, TX

The Colony is a Denton County suburb on the eastern shore of Lewisville Lake about 25 miles north of downtown Dallas, with urgent care needs served by Medical City Lewisville, Texas Health Presbyterian, and affiliated walk-in clinics. Book a same-day visit nearby or in urgent care in Dallas in under a minute.

What services do urgent care clinics in The Colony offer?

The Colony urgent care clinics handle the standard load — flu, strep, UTIs, sprains, lacerations, ear infections, sports physicals, and on-site labs and X-ray.2 Medical City Lewisville, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano, and Baylor Scott & White anchor the area's hospital options, with CareNow Urgent Care, Next Care, and Children's Urgent Care clinics serving the broader Mid-Cities North market.

Does urgent care in The Colony accept STAR (Texas Medicaid)?

Most The Colony-area urgent care clinics accept STAR, the Texas Medicaid managed care program administered by Texas Health and Human Services.1 Texas has not expanded Medicaid under the ACA, so eligibility is largely limited to children, pregnant women, and very low-income families — KFF tracks Texas as the state with the highest uninsured rate in the country.3 The Colony is a higher-income community with strong commercial insurance penetration, but STAR is broadly accepted at major health system urgent care clinics.

How does The Colony urgent care relate to Dallas?

The Colony has roughly 45,000 residents and sits in southeastern Denton County on the eastern shore of Lewisville Lake, with a workforce tied to professional services, retail (Nebraska Furniture Mart, Grandscape entertainment district), and Dallas commuter employment.4 Patients route south into urgent care in Dallas or to Plano for specialty referrals.

Urgent Care FAQs

  • Are there urgent care clinics in The Colony?

Yes. The Colony, TX has walk-in urgent care available either directly in town or within a short drive in adjacent communities. Most clinics offer same-day visits for common illnesses and minor injuries, with on-site labs and X-ray where needed. Use Solv to see real-time availability and book a slot before you walk in.
  • Does urgent care in The Colony accept STAR (Texas Medicaid)?

Most urgent care clinics serving the The Colony area accept STAR, the Texas Medicaid managed care program administered by Texas Health and Human Services. STAR is delivered through several managed care organizations (Amerigroup, Molina, Superior, United, etc.), so confirm with the specific clinic which MCOs they contract with before booking. Texas has not expanded Medicaid under the ACA, so working-age adults outside the standard STAR eligibility criteria typically do not qualify.
  • What insurance do urgent care centers in The Colony accept?

Most The Colony-area urgent care clinics accept commercial insurance plans (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Humana), Medicare, and TRICARE for active-duty military and veterans. Many also accept STAR (Texas Medicaid). Cash-pay and self-pay options are widely available — average urgent care visit costs run $100-$250 depending on services. Confirm your specific plan and copay with the clinic before booking.
  • Should I go to urgent care or the ER in The Colony?

Urgent care handles non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries — flu, strep, UTIs, sprains, lacerations needing stitches, minor burns, ear infections, mild asthma flares — usually for a fraction of an ER bill and with shorter waits. Go to the ER (or call 911) for chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe trauma, difficulty breathing, severe abdominal pain, head injury with confusion, or any condition that feels life-threatening. The nearest hospital ER for The Colony residents is Medical City Lewisville.
  • Are there pediatric urgent care options in The Colony?

Yes. The Colony and the surrounding Mid-Cities North area have multiple pediatric urgent care options, including clinics affiliated with Children's Health Dallas, Cook Children's, and PM Pediatrics. Most adult urgent care clinics in the area also see children, but pediatric-specific clinics offer kid-friendly waiting rooms and providers experienced with younger patients.
