My son woke up with a swollen and red throat and was also running a low grade fever. I was worried about strep so made an appointment online for the time that was most convenient for me. It was so easy! The ladies at the front desk were so nice and welcoming. The nurse and doctor were very patient with my 3 year old that was not all about getting his throat swabbed. But we got it done and were in and out so quick! My family and I will never go anywhere else!

I’ve been in and out of ER and urgent care for my condition, this was the first dr to give me some answers on what it could be as well as referrals to other physicians who can help as well as tests that can be done. Friendliest most knowledgeable Dr I’ve seen in a very very long time. Highly recommend.

I scheduled online and when I got there, they told me that I had to fill out paperwork because the schedule thing didn’t go through. Also, they had a kid come in with his parents that had been on a skateboard and hit a van and had head injury and I would’ve thought being an RN I am That had injury would’ve taken president over anybody else but they made him wait and I really didn’t like that you know I use your facility a lot because it’s convenient for me, but I’m getting tired of coming in and seeing a physician assistant or nurse practitioner you know I really wanna start seeing a doctor and I don’t know why you don’t have a medical doctor on staff

Been battling apparently Bronchitis for a while.  Came in, booked an appointment, waited an appropriate time for urgent care.  I was given Prednisone which greatly helped within a couple hours.  Took the providers advice to add vitamin C,D and zinc and drink 100 ounces of water, stopped working out which was aggravating my condition and feel great today.  Little disappointed with my provider back home in MN that I went in a couple times and it got to this point but grateful that I was able to get it taken care of down here.

Went in the office and they took me right away. I got into the examining room and Kristen came in right away. She is so nice and takes the time to listen to my concerns and gave me the prescriptions I needed to feel better. I have seen her two different times and she has been so caring and understanding both times that I saw her. I will definitely be going back if I need too. 😊

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

Went in for a COVID test, thankfully I was the first walk in, so the wait wasn't bad. A lot of people waiting in a small space.

- Verified patient on 12/11

Three of my family members booked an appointment on line for a Rapid Covid Test. We had little wait time and were able to be swabbed at the same time. which made our visit extremely fast. All the staff were effiecent and friendly.

- Verified patient on 8/7

I had a good experience but was very disappointed because I needed a Covid test and because I had one I. The previous week that was negative the team refused and sent me to Embry for another test.

- Verified patient on 12/12

I've been making my appointments for rapid Covid testing here and the staff is really great. Testing in the past has been flawless but today they used a different testing swab which made my nose and eyes burn plus gave me headache. I'm hoping when I return this test swab isn't used.

- Verified patient on 9/24

Staff is always professional and helpful. There are other urgent cares closer to my home but we choose to come here for the quality of service. The front desk woman was very busy with lots of people arriving for Covid tests and she was polite and friendly while moving patients along as quickly as possible. Both medical providers were efficient, kind and helpful at the end of the clinics hours. Thank you!

- Verified patient on 8/11

Everything was great. See my concern in the email below. As you can imagine, when you think their is a possibility that you might have COVID, your mind isn’t thinking as clearly. When I made the Rapid COVID Test online last night, we understood that there would be a cost for the test. I was not however, notified in the emails or texts that followed that I would be responsible for a $109 office visit. That was a complete shock. I filled out the paperwork ahead of time online and did not put any insurance information in. Perhaps there should be a prompt that if you do not have insurance, you will be charged $109 for an office visit. Please contact me. This appointment that I made was for my sister-in-law, Nora Romero, DOB: 2/16/***. Thank you, Jason Stickelman ***

- Verified patient on 12/15

I was definitely worried about getting the COVID test but the doctor was very patient in listening and the gal that came to my car was friendly too. Great experience for a fairly worrisome deal.

- Verified patient on 6/27

We needed to get a covid test for work. The office staff was extremely helpful even tho I was a pain LOL.. did the video visit, so easy! Drove to their office, staff came out to the truck, very friendly, swabbed our nose (the nicer test not all the way up your nose)... and off we drove!! Highly recommend!!!

- Verified patient on 7/24

This was a good experience. My wife and I were walk-ins for a Covid test. The clinic was very busy and wait times were about 3 hours. We checked in on line and the gal at the front desk said we’d be called when they could fit us in. We got called and went in and with minimal wait were accommodated. Staff was very polite and accommodating. Overall a good experience.

- Verified patient on 11/17

I was unaware there weren’t any rapid covid tests available nor was I informed about it. Please share on your website at each location if there are rapid tests or not. I was very upset when I walked in and they said they haven’t had rapid covid tests for the last two week. I did not see that on the website so it should be posted.

- Verified patient on 11/25

I came here for a covid test a couple months ago and was told to do a video with the doctor and wait in my car. I drove over at 8:40 when my appointment was at 9:00. I logged on 10 minutes earlier as it said and I was not seen till almost 10:00 no doctor picked up the video call. People were walking inside and there was no phone number to call. I could not walk in due to me having two little children in the car that I didn’t want to expose them to potential Covid patients. Very upset that a patient had to go ask my question for me because there was no one answering the phones.

- Verified patient on 12/15

My niece and I came in because I needed a covid test. She came with me because her leg was fiery hot and red and the redness was almost to her knee. Dr John thought she had cellulitis and gave her antibiotics. Turned out she has necrotizing fasciitis and ended up in the hospitals and having the front of her leg from knee to ankle removed all the way to the bone. Thank God she saw Dr John because he told her if it got any worse to go to the hospital immediately. She might not have gone when she did if it wasn’t for him. I would recommend you all anytime. Thank you for your care. Ps. My covid test was negative!😃☺️

- Verified patient on 4/3

I went for covid test and was grateful to find out that i could also see a doctor first. Waited for results while there and after the test was negative, Doc took care of my other symptoms. Great staff and care.

- Verified patient on 3/12

We went to get our Rapid COVID test. There was a long line of people but we were seen in less than 30 minutes. Very friendly and we only had to wait 10 minutes for results. Highly recommended. Great staff, fun, and friendly people.

- Verified patient on 1/29

I needed a rapid covid test to take a cruise. I had a 48 hour window to get it, but on day two I was leaving at 5:00 a.m. . It gave me one day to get it. I had two other appointments set up, received confirmations etc but when I went to the appointment I was told I didn't have one. After a very stressful morning I was referred here. I was in and out of there in no time with my test result in hand. Thank you so very much for the friendliness of your staff and being available to administer the test. I will be back again for my next pre trip covid test.

- Verified patient on 9/13

Had a 430 appt for a Covid test and of out of there by 5pm. Not bad considering it IS an urgent care and they will take priority visits over a simple test. Very happy with visit.

- Verified patient on 12/8

I came in for a rapid covid test and I didn’t have an appointment so I knew I would have to wait. The young lady said it would be 2 hours but it only took about an hour. Very nice people.

- Verified patient on 9/1

Tried making an appointment but they were full. I was told to come in and I could wait in line. I did and the wait was about 15 minutes. Got my Covid test was in and done. Very friendly staff

- Verified patient on 1/2

Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, caring and extremely helpful. Our appointment was at 11am and we were done by ***am. I live in apache Junction and we drove 25 min there but definitely will be using this UC again and recommend to friends and family. Awesome staff and we loved it here. Thank you all for making us feel at ease with the covid testing, we were very scared but you all made the visit easy.

- Verified patient on 7/7

The front desk was nice and helpful, especially for a mom who was nervous getting Covid tests for her kids. The nurse was great (she took the nose swab) and the doc/PA was also absolutely wonderful. During confusing times and when I was unsure where to go for testing, this facility made it all so painless. Thank you!

Gilbert COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Gilbert?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Gilbert?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. • Where can I get COVID testing in Gilbert?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Gilbert including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Gilbert?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Gilbert-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Gilbert?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Gilbert?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
