I brought my son in to be checked for strep throat. We were greeted and checked in right away. Didn't take long at all and staff had taken swabbed his throat and Jenna was in 5 minutes later for further examination. She determined that he had the symptoms of strep and she ordered antibiotics and we were on our way home. All the staff was friendly and professional! We will definitely come here again. Went there for a minor cut on my hand ask the physician assistant after he put two stitches in it Should I get an antibiotic shot and some antibiotics??? oh no, no no That was last Monday this Sunday I woke up in my hand was really hurting And stiff to close went back they charge me again, gave me an antibiotic shot and some antibiotics. That was yesterday this morning I woke up. My hand is somewhat stiffer, so I don’t know what to do. Due to their inadequate medical attention, it’s a possibility I will end up in the hospital with my hand.  Cost me thousands of dollars I don’t have plus all the pain and suffering

While the staff was incredibly helpful and kind when I took my son in for sore throat and the visit was quick and fine, his prescription was sent to the wrong pharmacy. After multiple calls, it was still never sent to the appropriate pharmacy and I ended up paying more money for his script at the wrong pharmacy. I know they’re not a primary care but why have me put a preferred pharmacy if they won’t use it and why can’t the prescription be adjusted after multiple calls? Too bad.

I went in for swelling in my face and swollen lymph nodes.  The pre screening nurse was very sympathetic and accommodating, assuring me that they would test for Covid, or anything else. Once I was seen by the doctor it was a different story. She literally shined her light in my face and mouth and determined it was an infection…. My face looks and feels like I was punched in my sleep… I could have told you it was an infection of some kind. She prescribed me some meds and sent me on my way.  I woke up the next day with worse swelling than the day before. Scheduled an appointment with a REAL doctor the next day.  This felt like drive thru medicine practice. Doctor clearly wanted to diagnose and move on. No tests, no blood work, nothing. Just a shiny little light. Seriously I could have got the same diagnosis at jack in the box… plus I would have saved 40 bucks and got some tacos!  Avoid this place, save yourself time and money and see an actual doctor.  Also I you have to put up signs everywhere about refusing disgruntled costumers, maybe the problem you!  Like just maybe, perhaps, could it be possible you are making your costumers disgruntled???

Wasn't too thrilled with my experience at this urgent care. Spent a mere 3 minutes with the provider, who quickly diagnosed me with laryngitis without running any tests. Not being tested for COVID, the flu, or strep leaves me feeling uneasy, especially with chest pressure, body aches, a low fever and excessive coughing. It seemed like they were in a rush to close by 4 PM. Additionally, the front desk sent my prescription to the wrong pharmacy, despite me providing the correct one in my paperwork beforehand. Thankfully I noticed before leaving but even after that they still sent 1 RX to the WRONG pharmacy. I felt like an inconvenience throughout the visit & like they didn't care. 10/10 do NOT recommended.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

Went in to get a Covid test done prepared to wait 24 to 48 hours for my result. To my surprise they had a rapid test available, and was able to get my results in 15 minutes.

- Verified patient on 7/18

Things went very well. Staff was great and did a wonderful job of administering the covid test

- Verified patient on 12/4

Took all three of my kids here for a Covid test, thankfully all were negative. It was very quick. The staff was so friendly and so helpful. Even with everything that’s going on the staff was very brave and very comforting to my children who hadn’t had the test done before. They made sure I had a printed copy of the test to take home. I couldn’t be more happy with the experience. Thank you.

- Verified patient on 2/13

They were very kind and understanding and were able to squeeze me in without an appointment for covid testing.

- Verified patient on 12/12

We had rapid COVID tests. We checked in by phone, the staff came to our car did a health assessment and took swabs. A few minutes later staff came to car with results, finished health assessment and sent us on our way. Everyone we have interacted with at Nexcare has been friendly and professional.

- Verified patient on 3/20

Drive through Covid test went great. Staff very friendly, helpful, and skilled. Received call with results in very timely manner. Visit results did not show outcome of my test.

- Verified patient on 3/28

I had a PA who was super. And my phone wasn’t working but they kept working with me anyway. I was there for a rapid COVID test. Just a really good medical experience. People VERY friendly and kind.

- Verified patient on 1/5

Went for a Covid test. I did not have an appointment. The wait was much shorter than I expected and the nurse who gave me the test was really friendly and efficient.

- Verified patient on 12/11

I have to say the experience was AWESOME. From when I called to let them know I was here to the call back and then the Covid test. Everyone I talked to or saw today was a amazing. I can’t thank them enough.

- Verified patient on 2/9

Got me in very quickly as a walk in patient for Covid test. Everyone was very friendly

- Verified patient on 11/25

I went for a Covid test. I was extremely nervous about the nasal swab but my nurse was AMAZING! Wish I got her name. She did it really quickly, talked to me for distraction and reminded me to just breathe. She was so kind and upbeat and this was late in the day after she’s had probably swabbed who knows how many people. Thanks for making an unpleasant procedure bearable!

- Verified patient on 11/25

Staff was very professional while being caring. Wait time was short. Had Covid test done entirely from my car

- Verified patient on 11/21

Drive thru Covid test was easy and the staff was so nice! It was very efficient and timely.

- Verified patient on 3/24

Urgent Care (Next Care) is who I choose over other Urgent Care facilities and Emergency Room. Everything was well organized and employees very cordial. Experienced medical staff. Suggestion: put possible questions and answers signage. Example: previously had drive up for COVID tests. Removing signage indicates a change, but unclear to older patients. Sign should be replaced telling no longer drive thru but in office. Read further directions on door.

- Verified patient on 11/12

My husband is hospitalized with COVID so I came for a COVID test. Everything was very efficient. I really liked Adrian.

- Verified patient on 11/2

It’s great , Still waiting For them to send me an email with my Covid test answer to show my boss though

- Verified patient on 4/20

It was great. This facility was very informative about COVID testing for those traveling. I had called so many different places and no one really had any answers.

- Verified patient on 10/6

Had to wait about half an hour, even though I booked an appt., but that's to be expected. PA-C was friendly & efficient. My only complaint is that I didn't receive any "discharge" paperwork, or a certifcate that my COVID test was negative Would be great if this info could be mailed or emailed to me at *** Thanks!

- Verified patient on 2/9

Went in for rapid Covid test got tested really quick once I was told how to proceed after several calls to clinic before someone answered. Ended up getting a prescription for something other than Covid, was to be called into my pharmacy so I could pick it up right away, well it never was received by the pharmacy called multiple times again to the clinic to try to get someone to answer the phone and was told they would resend the prescription only to have it not sent, stopped by the clinic and it was closed! NOT COOL!!!!!! So no prescription til hopefully tomorrow????!!!!

Sun City COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Sun City?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Sun City?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
