Urgent care
Once upon arrival I was welcomed and taken cared by the front desk. Waiting time was minimal and was greeted by kind medical staff. The nurse practitioner that took care of me was top notch in professionalism. She gave me literature on the problem I came in for which was so helpful. I would highly recommend this location. Everyone is great!

Urgent care
Scheduled an appointment but still had to wait for about an hour until I was seen. Also, the music that was playing at the front desk is fun while listening outside of a medical office but not for patients that don't feel well. It was loud and not the least bit relaxing.

Urgent care
Got a text that I was ready to be seen so I came to the clinic but then waited an hour to be seen. They refused to do most accurate testing (vaginal swab for gonorrhea and chlamydia testing in women… they said urine was the only option which is not standard of care for women and has many false negatives). No clinic has ever refused to do GC/CM swab for testing. Just so odd to me. They seemed agitated that I even asked. I’m an ER PA with 10 years experience who tests others for STIs all the time, so why would they not practice evidence-based medicine at AFC?

Urgent care
I have had many accidents in my life. Been to the ER more than a dozen times for a variety of mishaps, mistakes, and missteps that required medical care and stitches. Never have I experienced the care and kindness I have ever received from any medical care facility as I did by going to South Bay Urgent Care. I hate going to hospitals and try to avoid going at all cost. Unfortunately I sliced one of my fingers half way through and needed stitches. I feel fortunate and lucky enough to have had Isaac Ortega-Endahl, PA-C sew my finger back together. The man has amazing skill sets and should be a surgeon. Thank you Dr. Issac. I truly appreciate your kindness. I didn't realize that I got there close to their closing time and feel grateful to your entire staff that took care of me that night. Kindness is a rare thing in the world today. I'm so thankful that it exists in your staff at South Bay Urgent Care. Truly amazing people.

Urgent care in Pacific Beach, CA

Pacific Beach is a coastal San Diego neighborhood where the patient mix skews young — surfers, college students, and short-term renters who often need same-day care without an established primary doctor. Walk-in clinics in PB handle minor injuries, swimmer's ear, and urinary infections quickly, while more complex emergencies route to urgent care in San Diego or full ERs further inland.

For most patients, the question "where do I go?" comes down to acuity, time of day, and what's covered by their plan. Solv aggregates real-time availability across area clinics so you can compare wait time, hours, accepted insurance, and patient ratings before booking. Most appointments can be reserved in under two minutes, and many clinics confirm within seconds. If you're booking on behalf of a child or older adult, look for clinics that specifically list pediatric or geriatric experience in their profile.

What services do urgent care clinics in pacific beach offer?

Most PB-area clinics treat sprains, lacerations, sinus and respiratory infections, UTIs, dehydration, sunburn, jellyfish stings, and minor surf-related injuries. Several also offer in-house X-rays and lab draws so patients don't have to drive to a hospital campus. Sharp HealthCare and Scripps both operate urgent care and primary clinics in nearby La Jolla, Clairemont, and Mission Valley, and many PB walk-in providers are part of these networks.2 Occupational health, sports physicals, and travel vaccinations are common requests given the area's tourism economy and proximity to SDSU and UCSD.

Common visit reasons across San Diego County urgent care clinics include strep throat and tonsillitis testing, flu and COVID-19 testing, sinus infections, ear infections (especially in children), pink eye, urinary tract infections, minor burns, fractures and dislocations needing X-ray confirmation, and acute back or joint pain. Most clinics also offer pre-employment drug screens, TB testing, and immunizations including travel vaccines. Online booking through Solv typically reduces in-clinic wait times to under 15 minutes for the first available time slot.

Does urgent care in pacific beach accept Medi-Cal?

Yes — many urgent care providers in and around Pacific Beach accept Medi-Cal, California's Medicaid program administered by the Department of Health Care Services.1 Medi-Cal covered roughly one in three California residents in 2023, including a large share of San Diego County, so most major networks contract with the program.3 Coverage details depend on the patient's managed care plan — Community Health Group, Molina, Blue Shield Promise, and Health Net are the dominant Medi-Cal plans in San Diego County. Patients should confirm acceptance before the visit and bring their BIC card.

Most clinics will run insurance verification at the time of booking when you reserve through Solv, so you'll know coverage and copay expectations before you arrive. If you're uninsured, ask at booking about self-pay rates — many clinics publish flat-fee pricing for common visit reasons (strep test, UTI evaluation, simple laceration repair) that's competitive with paying out-of-pocket through a high-deductible plan.

How does pacific beach urgent care relate to san diego?

Pacific Beach is a coastal neighborhood inside the City of San Diego, not a separate municipality. The U.S. Census Bureau reports the city of San Diego at roughly 1.39 million residents,4 and PB itself functions as one of the city's most-visited districts. For visitors and residents who need broader options — pediatric urgent care, after-hours specialty care, or imaging that smaller PB clinics don't offer on-site — the nearby Mission Valley, Hillcrest, and La Jolla corridors expand the choice set. See urgent care in San Diego for the full network.

For most non-emergency same-day needs, staying close to home is faster and more convenient than driving into the metro core. Booking online through Solv lets you compare wait times, hours, and insurance acceptance across nearby clinics in a single view, and most clinics confirm appointments within minutes.

Urgent Care FAQs

  • Are there urgent care clinics in Pacific Beach, CA?

Yes. Pacific Beach and its immediate neighbors — La Jolla, Clairemont, and Mission Valley — host a mix of independent walk-in clinics and Sharp- and Scripps-affiliated urgent care. Most accept walk-ins seven days a week and offer online booking through Solv.
  • Does urgent care in Pacific Beach accept Medi-Cal?

Many do. Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program, and major San Diego networks including Sharp and Scripps contract with the dominant Medi-Cal managed care plans. Confirm with the specific clinic and bring your BIC card and managed care plan ID.
  • What insurance do urgent care centers in Pacific Beach accept?

Most clinics accept commercial PPO and HMO plans (Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Kaiser referral when applicable), Medicare, Medi-Cal managed care, TRICARE, and self-pay. Verify network status with your plan before the visit.
  • Should I go to urgent care or the ER in Pacific Beach?

Choose urgent care for minor injuries, infections, mild asthma, dehydration, and routine same-day issues. For chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe bleeding, head injury with loss of consciousness, or any life-threatening problem, call 911 or go directly to the nearest ER — Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego and UC San Diego Health Hillcrest are the closest full emergency departments.
  • Can urgent care in Pacific Beach treat surf and beach injuries?

Yes. Walk-in clinics in PB regularly treat reef cuts, jellyfish and stingray stings, sunburn, swimmer's ear, sprains, and minor fractures. Severe head trauma, drowning-related symptoms, or significant lacerations should go to an ER.
