I was able to easily schedule an appointment and be seen. I had the option of a tele-health appointment but I really wanted a medical professional to check my symptoms. It was wonderful to be taken care of and listened to, not rushed through a televise. The PA, nurse and check in staff listened to me and helped me get the care that I needed. They also did it with a smile, and that is the best medicine!

Very poor customer service. Front desk young African American women was very rude and not friendly at all. No uniform wearing her own jacket (very bad look for business practice) and her poor customer service skills. As I was, leaving the office she was looking like sleeping on the desk. I made appointment at 15:20 was not seen til 16:02. No apologies or anything. RN he was not friendly like he hates his job. Won’t be coming back. The only good thing was physician assistant. Carrollton HIV Testing

Who should get tested for HIVs?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for HIV, especially those who have multiple sexual partners, engage in unprotected sex, or share needles for drug use. According to the CDC, it's recommended that everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 get tested at least once as part of routine health care. However, those with higher risk factors should get tested more frequently, at least once a year.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for HIV is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, early detection allows for early treatment, which can significantly improve long-term health outcomes and reduce the risk of transmission. Secondly, knowing one's HIV status can lead to informed decisions about sexual behaviors and contraceptive methods, further preventing the spread of the virus. According to the CDC, undiagnosed or late-diagnosed HIV infection contributes significantly to transmission, hence the importance of regular testing.

HIV testing options in Carrollton, TX:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

There are several urgent care and walk-in clinics in Carrollton and nearby cities that offer HIV testing. One such location is CityDoc Urgent Care in Dallas, which has a high rating and a large number of positive reviews. These clinics provide convenient, same-day or next-day appointments which can be booked through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers are another option for HIV testing. These healthcare professionals can provide regular screenings as part of a routine check-up and can offer counseling and treatment options if the test comes back positive.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Community health centers and free STD testing clinics also provide HIV testing. These centers are often income-based, making them accessible to those who may not have insurance or who have low income.

At-home testing

At-home HIV testing kits are also available. These kits allow individuals to take the test in the privacy of their own home and then send the sample to a lab for analysis.

Prevalence of HIVs in Carrollton

Carrollton, located in Dallas County, has seen a steady increase in HIV cases over the years, mirroring the trend seen in the broader state of Texas. The prevalence rate in Dallas County is higher than the national average, according to the CDC. This could be due to various factors, including a large population size, high rates of unprotected sex, and lack of regular testing.

Risk factors related to HIVs in Carrollton

The primary risk factors for HIV in Carrollton include unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, and drug use involving shared needles. Other factors such as lack of education about HIV, stigma around testing, and limited access to healthcare can also contribute to the prevalence of the virus.

Other STDs in Carrollton

In addition to HIV, other STDs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and hepatitis are also prevalent in Carrollton. The rates of these STDs are also higher than the national average, highlighting the need for regular testing and education on safe sex practices.

HIV Test FAQs

  • Who should get an HIV test?

Everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should take an HIV test at least once in their lives. Some people are more likely to get HIV and should be tested more regularly. Those who have had sex with an HIV-positive partner, those who inject drugs, sexually active gay men, and those who have unprotected sex are all included. You should get checked every 6-12 months if you have any of these risk factors.

  • How do they test for HIV?

Antibodies created by your body in reaction to the virus are examined in HIV tests. A blood test or a sample of cells obtained from the inside of the cheek can be used to do this. After that, the sample is transported to a lab, where a technician will look for antibodies.

  • How long should I wait to get an HIV test?

It can take a long time for your body to build enough antibodies for an HIV test to detect the illness if you become sick. It may take 3-12 weeks for your blood to contain adequate antibodies. Even if you have HIV, you could have a negative test result during this time.

  • How long will I have to wait for HIV test results in Carrollton?

Because the sample must be sent to a laboratory for investigation, most HIV test results might take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. On the other hand, some Carrollton clinics or doctor's offices may offer rapid HIV testing, which can deliver a diagnosis in as little as 20 minutes. Rapid HIV testing involve a little sample of blood or fluid obtained from the mouth. You'll need a follow-up blood test to confirm the diagnosis if a fast test comes up positive.

  • How much does an HIV test cost?

A variety of factors influence the cost of an HIV test, including the type of test you receive, the location where you are tested, and whether or not you have health insurance. HIV testing may be provided for free or at a low cost by some clinics or health authorities. If you're a college student, you might be able to get free HIV tests through your school.

  • Is HIV testing covered by my insurance?

The majority of insurance coverage cover HIV testing. The Affordable Care Act mandates that all new health plans provide free HIV testing for those aged 15 to 65. If you have any doubts about what is covered under your individual health plan, you can always call your insurance company or go to their website.

  • Where can I get an HIV test in Carrollton?

Many Carrollton health clinics, doctor's offices, and the health department offer HIV testing. Some pharmacies with on-site clinics may also be able to give HIV testing. Even though some clinics accept walk-in appointments, making an appointment ahead of time will save you time and ensure that you receive your test on the same day.

  • Can I get a same-day appointment for HIV testing?

Yes, Solv offers same-day and next-day HIV testing appointments. We collaborate with thousands of healthcare providers across the country to make it easier for everyone to access the medical assistance they require quickly and conveniently. On our website, you can choose a physician near you and make an appointment right now.

  • How can I book an HIV test on Solv?

Simply type "HIV test" and your location into our website's search box. You'll find a list of providers and their available appointment times on the next page. Fill out the form to arrange an appointment at a time and location that is convenient for you. Make certain that your appointment is for "HIV testing."

  • Can I test myself for HIV at home?

Although there are several home HIV tests available, not all of them are accurate or FDA-approved. For a home test, you'll need a swab from the inside of your mouth or a blood sample taken with a finger pricker. If you get a positive result on a home HIV test, you should see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis and start treatment.
