Urgent care
My father had a pain in his side that made him groan every couple of minutes. His doctor’s office was closed, so we needed an urgent care clinic that accepted Medicare. Found CityDoc, scheduled online for that afternoon, and completed all the paperwork online. It was easy, and check-in was easy and smooth. Everyone at the clinic was very nice, and the doctor was very nice  and quite thorough. I would definitely recommend this provider and this clinic. *The day after our visit, my father reported his pain was getting worse. We went to the emergency room for painkillers, and they recommended a CT scan, which showed two broken ribs. CityDoc had x-rayed his rib(s) and told us no fractures were seen. So maybe not such a strong recommendation to CityDoc although everyone was very nice.

Urgent Care in Garland, TX

Garland sits at the northeast corner of Dallas County, a working-class first-ring suburb that quietly became one of North Texas's most linguistically diverse cities. Walnut Street between Audelia and Jupiter is home to One Little Saigon — the largest Vietnamese commercial district in DFW, anchored by Cali Saigon Mall and the Vietnamese-American Activities Center. Urgent care here looks different from Plano or Frisco.

What makes urgent care in Garland different from the rest of DFW?

Two things set Garland apart. First, Vietnamese is the third-most-spoken language in Garland ISD, and bilingual front-desk staff and translation services are a baseline expectation — not a niche. The Vietnamese-American Activities Center on Saturn Road has hosted community health fairs since 1999 and serves as the cultural hub. Second, unlike Plano in Collin County to the north (no public safety-net hospital), Garland sits in Dallas County, which is served by Parkland Memorial Hospital — a fully funded public safety-net system. That changes the calculus for uninsured residents needing follow-up after an urgent care visit.

When should you go to urgent care instead of the ER in Garland?

Urgent care covers most non-life-threatening needs: respiratory infections, UTIs, sprains, lacerations needing stitches, minor burns, school and sports physicals, flu and strep testing, and most pediatric fevers. Send chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe trauma, major head injuries, and pregnancy complications to the ER. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center–Lake Pointe in nearby Rowlett is the closest acute-care hospital with a Level III NICU and Fast-Track ED. Major trauma routes to Medical City Plano (Level I) or Parkland in downtown Dallas.

Which urgent care brands operate in Garland?

CareNow Urgent Care (HCA-affiliated) is the largest chain footprint in Garland with multiple locations along the LBJ Freeway and Northwest Highway corridors. NextCare Urgent Care, AFC Urgent Care, and PrimaCare Medical Centers fill out the chain layer. Concentra dominates the occupational-medicine and DOT physical segment for Garland's significant logistics and manufacturing workforce. Independent and Vietnamese-American operated clinics cluster near One Little Saigon along Walnut. For after-hours pediatric care, families often cross into Richardson or Mesquite.

Does urgent care in Garland accept STAR Medicaid?

Texas STAR Medicaid (the state's managed-care program covering children, pregnant women, and low-income families) is accepted at most Garland chain urgent care brands. Texas has not expanded Medicaid to childless adults under the ACA — Texas remains one of 10 non-expansion states, and the working-age uninsured rate in Dallas County hovers above 19 percent. A notable shift: in April 2026, Baylor Scott & White Health announced it would discontinue participation in Medicaid and individual ACA marketplace plans, affecting approximately 225,000 Texas residents. Garland patients who used BSW Lake Pointe or affiliated clinics through Medicaid should confirm in-network status at their next visit and consider alternative providers.

What drives urgent care demand in Garland year-round?

Three patterns dominate. Bilingual Vietnamese and Spanish-language demand runs steady year-round — Garland's foreign-born population exceeds 26 percent. Manufacturing and logistics injuries push Concentra and Patient First occupational-medicine volume — Garland's industrial corridor along I-30 and the Bush Turnpike employs tens of thousands. And like the rest of North Texas, ozone-action-day asthma flares and high pollen counts drive seasonal respiratory volume from March through October. North Texas summer heat regularly tops 100°F and pushes heat-illness urgent care traffic from May through September.

Urgent Care Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the average urgent care wait time in Garland, TX?

Most Garland urgent care clinics on Solv see patients within 30 to 60 minutes of arrival when you reserve a spot online. Walk-in waits at CareNow and NextCare locations can stretch to 90 minutes or more during weekend evening peaks — booking online cuts wait time substantially.
  • Does urgent care in Garland, TX accept STAR Medicaid?

Yes. Texas STAR Medicaid managed-care plans are accepted at most chain urgent care locations in Garland, including CareNow, NextCare, AFC, and PrimaCare. Texas has not expanded Medicaid to childless adults under the ACA, so adults without dependents or pregnancy generally do not qualify. Confirm in-network status with the location before your visit.
  • Are there Vietnamese or Spanish-speaking urgent care clinics in Garland?

Yes. With Vietnamese the third-most-spoken language in Garland ISD and a large Spanish-speaking population, most Garland urgent care chains employ bilingual front-desk staff. • When should I go to urgent care instead of the ER in Garland?

Urgent care covers minor infections, sprains, cuts requiring stitches, school physicals, and most pediatric fevers. • Are there 24-hour urgent care clinics in Garland, TX?

Most Garland urgent care clinics close between 8 and 10 p.m. on weeknights. For 24-hour care, the emergency departments at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center–Lake Pointe in Rowlett and Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas remain open continuously. Some CareNow locations operate extended evening and weekend hours.
  • Can I get an occupational injury or DOT physical at Garland urgent care?

Yes. Concentra and CareNow handle the majority of Garland's workers' compensation injuries and DOT physicals, reflecting the city's large logistics, manufacturing, and trucking workforce concentrated along I-30 and the Bush Turnpike. PrimaCare and AFC also offer DOT exams.
  • Where is the closest Level I trauma center to Garland?

Medical City Plano operates the closest Level I trauma center to Garland (about 12 miles north). Parkland Memorial Hospital in downtown Dallas is Dallas County's Level I trauma center and the public safety-net hospital for uninsured residents. For pediatric trauma, Children's Medical Center Dallas (Level I pediatric) is the regional destination.
