Prior to going into the office, I had called to find out the hours. When I arrived at the office, I was greeted very nicely. I checked in staff was friendly. I didn’t have to wait long at all. My vital signs were taken. A NP student INTERVIEWED ME TO FIND OUT MY ISSUES. HE WAS VERY PLEASANT, KIND AND GENTLE. AFTERWARDS, THE NURSE PRACTITIONER CAME IN AND ALSO EXAMINED ME AND ATTENDED TO MY KNEE. IT IS A VERY PLEASANT VISIT.

I thought I broke my wrist and I got an x-ray here and the nurse practitioner explained to me exactly what the process was and she gave me her opinion about whether she noticed a fracture and I got a call back within two hours and got the full results of the x-ray. I only waited for about two minutes before I was taken back to the room and I was out of there within 40 minutes. Very efficient!

Made my appt 24 hours in advance, answered all confirmation text, arrived 10 min in advance, checked in and watched walk- ins being help ahead of me.  Appt was at 11:30 AM. I checked w the desk at noon and said I don’t understand how others got taken ahead of me. Receptionist asked me for $35 the. I waited at least another 10 min and watched 2 more who arrived after me get served. I went to receptionist, another gal was there and she began asking why the delay for me. I was then immediately taken care of- about one hour after my arrival.  Care was fine- I’d expect a wait if I was a walk in, but I was not.  Really disappointing to get lost in the order of service- service was just what it should have been. Darcy and Becca were pleasant and helpful.

BMP Testing in Collingdale

A BMP test checks the levels of eight components in your blood and can be used by doctors to determine if you have one or more serious medical problems. BMP blood tests are commonly performed as part of a routine medical exam. If you are seeking emergency medical care or have been diagnosed with and are being treated for a chronic condition, BMP testing may be required.

A BMP test can be used to check the following body functions and processes:

  • Kidney function
  • Blood sugar levels
  • Metabolism
  • Lung function
  • Blood calcium level
  • Blood acid and base balance
  • Fluid and electrolyte balance
  • Organ health and function
  • Cell, blood, and tissue health

Fasting for 8-12 hours is required prior to a BMP test. Any drugs or nutritional supplements you're taking should also be disclosed to your doctor, as some of them may alter your results.

Because a blood draw is required for the BMP test, it usually just takes a few minutes. Obtaining a blood sample from your arm is normally done with the assistance of a needle. The doctor or lab technician will clean your skin at the injection site and place an elastic band over it to make your veins more swollen and visible (typically the arm). A fine needle will be used to extract the blood sample, which will then be put into one or more vials. The doctor or lab technician will remove the elastic.

During a BMP test, you may have some discomfort and slight soreness at the injection site, but this usually passes after a few minutes or hours. Your doctor will contact you when your results are ready to discuss them, which might take anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks.

In some situations, your Collingdale doctor may suggest additional testing, particularly if any abnormalities are identified or if your doctor is unable to establish a diagnosis. If the results of your BMP test indicate that you have a health problem, your doctor may contact you to discuss your treatment options.

Basic Metabolic Panel FAQs

  • What is a BMP blood test?

A BMP blood test examines eight different components in your blood to see if your body is functioning properly. The metabolism, energy levels, chemical balance, and organ function are all examined in this examination. If you have a chronic condition such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or kidney disease, it may be done as part of a routine checkup. During a BMP, your doctor draws a small sample of your blood and sends it to the lab for testing and analysis.

  • What is included in a basic metabolic panel?

A BMP measures the levels of eight substances in your blood. The factors tested include blood urea nitrogen (BUN), blood glucose, calcium, carbon dioxide, chloride, creatinine, potassium, and sodium. If you have abnormally high levels of one or more of these substances, you may have a serious health concern that requires immediate attention.

  • How much do BMP tests cost in Collingdale?

The cost of a BMP test in Collingdale is determined by a number of factors, including provider rates and whether the test is covered by your health insurance. Contacting the Collingdale blood testing location or your health insurance provider to learn more about your benefits is the best way to discover the cost of a BMP.

  • Does insurance cover BMP testing in Collingdale?

BMP testing is covered by many health insurance coverage, especially if your doctor believes it is medically necessary. Contact your Collingdale provider to see if your health insurance supports BMP testing and to learn more about your coverage and any out-of-pocket expenditures. Some BMP testing companies may be able to check your insurance coverage for you.

  • Where should I get a basic metabolic panel in Collingdale?

In Collingdale, a BMP can be performed at your doctor's office, a lab, or a hospital. Many doctors will refer you to a reputable BMP provider who will do the test and report the results to your physician. You can also use Solv to identify reputable BMP providers in your area who have a high rating.

  • How long does it take to get BMP blood test results?

Depending on lab personnel and production, the results of a BMP blood test can take anywhere from a few hours to 24 hours to arrive. Some BMP providers in Collingdale may contact your doctor with the findings, which could take a few days or weeks. The BMP test provider can usually provide you a more accurate time estimate for receiving your results.

  • What is the normal range for a basic metabolic panel?

All laboratories and BMP providers have distinct “normal” value ranges when it comes to BMPs. The BMP results shown below are usually considered normal:

    • BUN: 6 to 20 mg/dL
    • Blood glucose: 64 to 100 mg/dL
    • Calcium: 8.5 to 10.2 mg/dL
    • Carbon dioxide: 23 to 29 mmol/L
    • Chloride: 96 to 106 mmol/L
    • Creatinine: 0.8 to 1.2 mg/dL
    • Potassium: 3.7 to 5.2 mEq/L
    • Sodium: 136 to 144 mEq/L
  • Do I need to see a doctor before getting a BMP test in Collingdale?

Many providers in Collingdale require a doctor's referral to do a BMP test. The main benefit of seeing a doctor first is that you'll be able to assess whether or not this test is necessary based on your symptoms and medical history. A BMP test is commonly performed prior to surgery, in an emergency, or when your doctor needs to precisely diagnose a problem.

BMP test samples are typically tested and assessed in medical laboratories. Individual components of a BMP test, such as the blood glucose test, may, nevertheless, be able to be measured at home.
